Who We Are
Over a period of 26 years a group of dedicated believers from the Sault Ste. Marie area hosted an annual children’s World Changers Missions Conference in the fall. That vision was expanded in 2017 and 2018 to include the entire Church family through a mission conference event held in Sault Ste Marie called “SOO Mission Expo”.
SOO Mission Expo is arranging a missions Concert of Prayer on March 1, 2019 - a gathering of mission minded believers focused on praying for God's work in His harvest fields around the world.
In March of 2020 SOO Mission Expo will return to the two day mission conference where we will provide something for everyone from children through teens to adults which will include general sessions, children’s program, workshops and exhibitors from local, national and international organizations.
Sandy and Jim
Sandy and Jim have a keen and active interest in missions here at home and internationally. Although originally planning to serve in West Africa as missionaries, God redirected their steps and brought them back to Canada where they served with SIM Canada in the Toronto office for 32 years in recruitment, training and other support roles. Before retirement, they served nine years with One Hope Canada, formerly CSSM Ministries.
Alice McLeod is the daughter of missionaries who lived out their love for Jesus in church planting and Bible teaching ministries here in Canada. She assisted them in their work and after graduating from Bible College she married Rick and they served together as he taught for nine years at a Bible College. They later ministered in a cross-cultural setting in western Canada for a number of years. She enjoys teaching Bible studies, discipling, women and children and music ministries.
Howard McLeod was a teacher and school administrator in Sault Ste Marie before serving with One Hope Canada as a director of Galilean Bible Camp and Ontario Field Director. Retirement hasn’t stopped him from fulfilling his desire to serve God. Howard is very well known in the area and continues to provide help from his many years of faith and knowledge of the community through serving on committees, preaching and volunteering in numerous capacities.
Marc J. Laporte
Mary Hill credits her experience with volunteering as summer camp staff as being foundational in her desire to serve in missions. Equipped with a nursing background, she did two short term medical trips in the Dominican Republic then served in the Middle East with Operation Mobilization for nine years. For several years Mary shared her passion for missions with children at the World Changer Children’s Missionary Conference. Besides serving on the Soo Mission Expo Committee, Mary enjoys leading home Bible studies, teaching Sunday school and caring for shut-ins.
Marc J. Laporte has been very active in serving the Sault area from the start of his journey with Christ and always had a missional heart to use his giftings for God’s glory. He has helped bring Christian organizations to the area, as well spearheading a city-wide youth ministry with others in the area. He is in the process of developing an organization to provide graphics and media resources for churches and organizations around the world.
